木は生きものです。特に樹種によって様々に異なる色や杢目の美しさに目を奪われます。自然が生み出すその魅力を、毎日使うトレイに取り入れたのが「しまトレイ」です。私の木工作品は、全て着色をしていない自然木の色のままで表現されています。
寄木・木象嵌作品「しまトレイ」について 、 ストライプの寄木を木象嵌した「しまトレイ」は、木の素地の色や杢目を生かすためにオイルや蜜蝋で仕上げていますが、長くご愛用いただくために、作品の取り扱いについて説明書きを、頁末尾に掲載していますので、ご参照ください。
- Message from the Artist
Wood is a living thing. It is particularly fascinating to see the beauty of the colors and grain, which vary from species to species. The Striped Tray incorporates this natural beauty into a tray for everyday use. All of my woodworking works are expressed in their natural wood color without any coloring.
About the Striped Tray, a Marquetry and wood inlay work, the Striped Tray, made with striped marquetry and wood inlay, is finished with oil and beeswax to bring out the natural color and grain of the wood, however to ensure long-term use, please refer to the instructions on how to care for the work at the end of the page.

略歴
1957年生まれ
1980年 岡山大学教育学部特別教科（美術・工芸）教員育成課程卒
倉敷市内の中学校美術科教諭として勤務の後、県の文化行政に携わる。
2019年 岡山県庁を退職し、美術・工芸の活動を展開。
現在一般社団法人アーツハブ岡山理事。
アート活動
1980年 テンペラによる抽象絵画の制作を開始。その後、立体造形へと展開。

Biography
Masahiro Kawasaki
Born in 1957
In 1980, Graduated from Okayama University Faculty of Education Special Subject (Arts and Crafts) Teacher Training Course After working as an art teacher at a junior high school in Kurashiki City, he became involved in prefectural cultural administration.
In 2019, he retired from Okayama Prefectural Government and began working in the arts and crafts activities. Currently a director of Arts Hub Okayama General Incorporated Association.
Art Activities:
1980: Started creating abstract paintings using tempera.
Later, he expanded into three-dimensional sculpture.

Woodworking craft activities:
In 1994, he started making woodwork using an electric jigsaw and developed his activities as a woodworker. He obtained a patent for making boxes using the diagonal cutting technique with an electric jigsaw. He spread activities for holding workshops throughout the prefecture.

■寄木・木象嵌作品「しまトレイ」の取り扱いについて
ストライプの寄木を木象嵌した「しまトレイ」は、木の素地の色や杢目を生かすためにオイルや蜜蝋で仕上げていますが、長くお使いいただくために次のことにご留意ください。
・ 寄木などで使っている接着剤は耐水性のものを使っていますが、水に浸けたまま放置すると破損の原因となります。また、シミが付くなどトラブルの原因にもなりますので、水分が付いた場合はそのままにせず拭き取って下さい。特に、濡れた金属を放置すると、黒変したシミが残ることがあります。
・ 木の色や風合いを生かすためにオイルや蜜蝋で仕上げていますが、長く使っているうちに熱や摩擦で次第にオイル分が抜け、つやが失われてくる場合があります。その際は、えごま油、亜麻仁油、オリーブオイルなどを布につけて薄く拭くことでオイル分を補ってください。
・ 木は生き物です。直射日光に長時間さらしたり、極度に乾燥した環境にあると収縮やひび割れなどが生じ、不具合や破損の原因になります。
・ 落としたり投げたりなど、乱暴に扱うと破損等の原因となります。
・ 高温のものを置くと、オイルや蜜蝋が溶けて跡が残ることがあります。
・ 木の色は経年変化により退色する場合があります。
・ しまトレイは、重いものを運ぶために使用するには適していません。

■ How to care for the Striped Marquetry and Wood Inlay work (Mokuzogan) "Striped Tray"
‐The striped marquetry and wood inlay work "Striped Tray" is finished with oil and beeswax to bring out the color and grain of the wood, but please note the following to ensure for long life.
-The adhesives used for marquetry are water-resistant, however leaving it submerged in water can cause damage. It can also cause problems such as stains, so if moisture gets on the product, wipe it off instead of leaving it as it is. Especially, leaving wet metal can leave black stains.
-To bring out the color and texture of the wood, we finish it with oil and beeswax, but over time, heat and friction can cause the oil to slowly wear off and the luster to fade. In that case, replenish the oil by wiping the item with a thin layer of perilla oil, linseed oil, olive oil, etc. using a cloth.
・Wood is living. If exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time or in an extremely dry environment, it may shrink, warp, or crack, which may cause malfunctions or damage.
・Dropping, throwing, or other rough handling may cause damage.
・Placing hot objects on the tray may cause the oil or beeswax to melt and leave
marks.
・The color of the wood may fade over time.
・Striped trays are not suitable for carrying heavy objects.
